If you're new to RSS feeds and podcasting, read Dolphin's easy guide to getting started below.
Subscribe to our feed.
If you subscribe to the podcast or RSS feed you will automatically receive each new episode on your PC as it becomes available on the internet. In order to subscribe you will need to have podcast or news reading software on your computer. Subscribing is completely free, and you can cancel at any time.
How do I subscribe?
- Copy the URL of the feed: http://phtour.yourdolphin.com/feed.asp
- Paste the URL into your podcast or RSS software. The details of how you do this will vary depending on your software, but look out for buttons or links which say "Add" or "Subscribe".
Recommended RSS News Readers and Podcasting Software.
Podcasting Software:
- AccessiblePodcatcher (formerly AccessiblePodcaster): This application is very accessible and works well with most screen readers including Hal from Dolphin. Get the accessible podcasting software from webbie.org.uk.
- Juice (formally known as iPodder): This is a more fully featured podcast receiver and works well with the majority of screen access software. To improve access for Hal and Supernova users a beta map file is available for Juice. Download the beta map file for Juice. Get Juice software.
Other podcast software is available such as iTunes or Doppler. Dolphin have a beta map file for making iTunes more accessible to users of Dolphin SuperNova or Hal screen reading software.
RSS News Readers:
- Accessible RSS: An accessible application that lets you access RSS feeds. It displays the headlines when you add a feed. Get the accessible RSS software from webbie.org.uk.
- NewsGator: A news aggregator that runs in Microsoft Outlook or online. Signup online for a free NewsGator account.
- Bloglines: A popular web-based news aggregator that can be used instead of desktop software. Sign up for a free bloglines account.
There are many other news applications available.
What is a Blog?
The word "Blog" is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal or news page that is frequently updated on the internet. You can read Dave's blog of the Pocket Hal Tour on this website.
What is Podcasting?
Podcasting lets you automatically receive audio files or 'podcasts' on your PC as they become available. Many people then copy the audio files to a portable MP3 player so they can listen to them on the move. To receive a podcast you need to subscribe, rather like you might subscribe to a magazine and get it delivered every week. Some podcasts are free, others you have to pay for, but all of Dolphin's podcasts about the Pocket Hal journey are completely free!
In order to sign up for a podcast you need an internet connection and a piece of podcast software which is usually available free of charge. This software can check the Pocket Hal tour website for new episodes and automatically download them for you.
